Sources: McFadden to declare for NFL draft

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports RB Darren McFadden, the University of Arkansas star runner who finished as the Heisman Trophy runner-up in each of the past two seasons, will forego his final season of college eligibility and enter the 2008 NFL draft, ESPN.com has learned. Multiple sources said McFadden's father, Graylon McFadden, dispatched the appropriate paperwork to the NFL office early this week. The decision by one of the college game's most electrifying performers to leave school a year early and pursue a professional career was hardly unexpected. Read more

Browns name Tucker defensive coordinator

The Cleveland Browns have named Mel Tucker as defensive coordinator, the club announced today. Tucker received a two-year contract extension and is signed through the 2010 season. Tucker spent the last three seasons as the Browns defensive backs coach under Head Coach Romeo Crennel. Read more

Rutgers RB Rice will enter NFL draft

AP reports RB Ray Rice will skip his senior year to enter the NFL draft after becoming the leading rusher in Rutgers history and transforming the Scarlet Knights into a Top 25 team. "I have always dreamed of playing in the NFL, and I felt the time is right to pursue the opportunity to play at the next level," he said in a statement Tuesday. Read more

Martz hired to run 49ers offense

ESPN’s John Clayton reports despite some initial resistance from ownership, San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Nolan has hired Mike Martz as his offensive coordinator. Martz, offensive coordinator of the Detroit Lions for the past two years, agreed to a two-year deal with the 49ers. The reason for a two-year contract is that it coincides with the remaining length of Nolan's deal in San Francisco. The two coaches worked together when they were with the Washington Redskins.
