Foster's days with Panthers numbered

The Charlotte Observer reports RB DeShaun Foster's days with the Carolina Panthers appear to be numbered. The team is considering either trading or releasing Foster, which would save them $4.75 million under the salary cap. The Panthers have spoken to several teams about the possibility of dealing Foster and are shopping the running back. The team apparently believes Foster has value and would prefer to get some compensation for him. Read more

Falcons release Crumpler, Coleman

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports TE Alge Crumpler and DL Rod Coleman were among seven players released by the Falcons Friday, according to a statement from the organization. Others released include left OT Wayne Gandy, QB Byron Leftwich, CB Lewis Sanders, LB Marcus Wilkins and WR Jamin Elliott. Read more

Expect contract talks to begin this week with Roethlisberger

The Post-Gazette reports the Steelers this week will open contract talks with some of their players who can become unrestricted free agents and one who cannot -- QB Ben Roethlisberger. Roethlisberger has two years left on the contract he signed as a rookie in 2004, but both sides have expressed a desire to reach a contract extension this year. Getting a contract extension and getting one quickly was one of three wishes Roethlisberger said he had for the offseason during a Jan. 15 interview. "I'm eager, anxious, because I want to get it done with. I want to say let's go, let's get it over with so the talks can stop, people can stop bugging me about it," he said. "Because I just want to play football.'' Read more
