Grossman signs one-year deal

ESPN’s John Clayton reports QB Rex Grossman has signed a one-year deal to remain as the starting quarterback of the Chicago Bears. Grossman wanted to stay with the Bears, and Bears GM Jerry Angelo and HC Lovie Smith wanted to give him one more chance to stay as their starting quarterback. On Saturday, each side worked out a deal in order for the relationship to continue. Read more

Thomas chooses Cowboys over Pats, Saints

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports seven-time Pro Bowl inside LB Zach Thomas has reached a contract agreement in principle with the Dallas Cowboys, team and league sources told ESPN.com on Saturday morning. Thomas, 34, who was released by the Miami Dolphins two weeks ago, following a 2007 season in which he was limited to just five appearances, chose the deal from the Cowboys over contract proposals from the New England Patriots and the New Orleans Saints. BigCProfootball.com reports rumors are circulating at the Combine that the Minnesota Vikings have given the agent WR Troy Williamson permission to seek a trade. Panthers release Foster

CBSSports.com wire reports the Carolina Panthers released starting RB DeShaun Foster on Thursday, a move that clears salary-cap space and opens the door for RB DeAngelo Williams to become the team's featured back. Foster, Carolina's second-round pick in 2002, never rushed for more than 897 yards in six seasons plagued by fumbles and injuries. Read more
