Browns increase offer to Anderson

AP reports with the deadline to tender restricted free agents looming, the Cleveland Browns are continuing their efforts to secure QB Derek Anderson with a contact extension. The Browns' latest offer is a three-year deal worth $20 million, with $10 million guaranteed, according to the Columbus Dispatch. There are indications that an agreement could be struck Wednesday or early Thursday, according to reports in both the Dispatch and the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Anderson is scheduled to become a restricted free agent on Friday, and he can either accept the Browns' offer, or take a one-year tender worth $2.52 million. With the tender, the Browns would be able to match any other team's offer to Anderson, or receive first- and third-round draft picks if he ends up with another team. Read more

Patterson charged with marijuana possession

AP reports Philadelphia Eagles DT Mike Patterson has been charged with marijuana possession after a police officer found a small amount of the drug in his car after a minor accident. Patterson and his brother, Tyrone, were arrested Feb. 16 shortly after 6 a.m., Evesham Township police said Friday. Police had approached their car as it was parked on the side of the road with some visible damage from an accident, said police Capt. Jeff Gural. A police officer smelled the scent of burning marijuana and found some inside the car, police said. Mike Patterson, who was the car's driver, admitted the marijuana was his, police said. Read more

Several teams interested in Lions' Rogers

ESPN’s John Clayton reports Lions GM Matt Millen acknowledged he would listen to offers for DT Shaun Rogers, and there is no question that there is interest. According to a source, approximately five or six teams have expressed interest in Rogers, who can be one of the most dominating defensive players in football. Rogers' name has been mentioned in trades in recent years, but this is the most serious talk of a possible deal. Read more
