Faneca set to move on after 10 seasons

The Post-Gazette reports those weren't dollar signs OG Alan Faneca saw yesterday, but a decade's worth of memories. His days with the Steelers have come to an end, and he will sign elsewhere, almost surely accepting another team's offer Friday, the start of another round of free agency in the NFL. The Steelers could have made him their franchise player and forced him to work for them at least one more year. But they decided they could not pay him the kind of money he will earn as a perennial Pro Bowl guard and did not want to have him as a forced laborer. Browns terminate contract of DE Roye

BigCProfootball.com reports the Cleveland Browns have terminated the contract of DE Orpheus Roye. Roye, a 12-year NFL veteran with Cleveland and Pittsburgh, spent the last eight seasons with the Browns (2000-07).  Roye had his best season with the Browns in 2005 with a career-high 95 tackles.  Last season, Roye appeared in 13 games, including five starts, and totaled 34 tackles with half a sack for one yard and two quarterback pressures. Panthers cut QB Carr

AP reports the Carolina Panthers have released disappointing QB David Carr and have come to terms with WR Muhsin Muhammad. Carr was let go a year after he signed a two-year, $6 million deal with the Panthers following a five-year stint as a starter in Houston. Carr struggled so badly when he took over for the injured QB Jake Delhomme last season that he was eventually demoted to third-string. Read more

ESPN’s Len Pasquarelli reports in their latest effort to secure a proven, complementary pass catcher to pair with star WR Steve Smith, the Carolina Panthers have turned to a familiar face, making significant progress toward reaching a contract agreement with veteran free agent WR Muhsin Muhammad. Released by the Bears last week, Muhammad played the first nine seasons of his career (1996-2004) with the Panthers before signing with Chicago in 2005. After his release, the 12-year veteran generated interest from four teams, but quickly focused on rejoining the Panthers, given his familiarity with the franchise and the fact he still owns a home in the Charlotte area.
