NFL.com reports negotiations between defensive end Cliff Avril and the Detroit Lions have broken off, a source with knowledge of the situation told NFL.com's Albert Breer on Monday. It is now a near-certainty that a deal will not be done before the 4 p.m. ET Monday deadline for franchise tagged players to agree to terms on long-term contracts with their respective teams.
