NFLPA says New York Giants withheld bonus check from Burress
New York Giants12/11/2008 7:58 AM The Star-Ledger reports WR Plaxico Burress was due $1 million Wednesday. According to the NFL Players' Association, he didn't see a penny of it. Burress was scheduled to receive that money as a deferred payment that was part of the $4.25-million signing bonus on his new contract from September. But that was before he shot a hole in his thigh and was suspended by the team. "The Giants have decided to forgo payment of his signing bonus," NFLPA spokesman Carl Francis said in an e-mail sent minutes ago. "Therefore, we will file a claim in the appropriate forum to enforce his rights to receive and keep the monies entitled to him under his player contract." The union already filed a grievance yesterday, saying the Giants were in violation of the collective bargaining agreement by suspending Burress.
