Beverly said he felt he could still play physically and still loved the game, but his passion to play wasn't 100%. He said he had been contemplating retirement since the end of last season. "My big struggle was, I started here, I enjoyed it here and I saw something growing here, and I wanted to be a part of it," Beverly said. "But also ... if I couldn't give 100%, I didn't want to cheat myself or the organization." "It caught me off-guard," HC Rod Marinelli said Saturday. "But I respect it. He came into my office. He's a heck of a man, and he came right in and said, 'I'm done. It's too much. I've had a good career, and I want to tell you early so you can make plans.' "Read more
