ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports no deal for free-agent wide receiver Terrell Owens is imminent, but his connections to Cincinnati are increasing. Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer has been working out regularly with Owens in California and has been highly impressed, according to a team source. Palmer has gone so far as to tell Bengals officials what an asset Owens could be and how much talent he still has. If nothing else, it has gotten Cincinnati thinking and talking about a receiver it hosted for a free-agent visit in March. Back then the Bengals opted for Antonio Bryant, but a team that has been short-handed at wide receiver knows it never hurts to stockpile talent at the position.

AP reports DE Bobby McCray is returning to New Orleans only one month after the Saints unexpectedly waived him. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis says McCray signed a one-year contract on Thursday, the same day fifth-round draft choice Matt Tennant signed a four-year deal. McCray, a six-year veteran, was with the Saints the past two seasons, playing in all 32 regular season games and started eight. He also started all three playoff games last season during the Saints' Super Bowl championship run.

AP reports DE Elvis Dumervil signed his restricted free agent tender and continued working out with the Denver Broncos during the offseason while his agent and general manager exchanged figures. Dumervil hit pay dirt with a $61.5 million extension through 2015 that includes $43.168 million in guarantees, a record for a player at his pass-rushing position.

ESPN reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed coach Mike Tomlin to a two-year extension with an additional option year, just a year removed from missing the playoffs. The extension was expected because the Steelers' policy has been to sign a coach before he begins the final season of a contract. Tomlin's current contract, which averages $2.5 million annually, had one season and an option year remaining.

The Dayton Daily News reports the Bengals have signed cornerback Brandon Ghee of Wake Forest, one of two Cincinnati third-round selections in the 2010 draft, according to a press release from the team. Ghee (pronounced “JEE”) was the 96th overall selection. Ghee (6-0, 190) was a three-year starter for Wake Forest teams that reached two bowl games. He rated as one of the fastest and most athletic cornerbacks of the 2009 college crop and had a 4.39 clocking in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine.
