Colts Starters to Play Sparingly

The Indianapolis Star reports when the Indianapolis Colts conclude the preseason at home Friday against Cincinnati, fans can plan on seeing QB Peyton Manning, DE Dwight Freeney and the rest of the team's healthy front-line players. Colts coach Tony Dungy said Sunday he plans to play his first-teamers against the Bengals. The exhibition finale historically has been an off night for such starters. "You won't see them much," Dungy said in a telephone interview, "so you need to get there early if those are the guys you want to see." Read more

Pacman in Trouble Again

AP reports Tennessee Titans CB Adam "Pacman" Jones was arrested outside a bar early Aug. 25 and charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication. Officers saw Jones arguing loudly with a woman outside a nightclub where a rap concert had been held, according to the police report. The 22-year-old Jones was described by police as slurring his speech, having bloodshot eyes and smelling strongly of alcohol. The arrest came the day after the Titans broke training camp. Read more

Pats Give Branch Permission to Seek Trade

AP reports the New England Patriots gave star WR Deion Branch a week to seek a trade as his holdout entered its 29th day. Branch, the 2005 Super Bowl MVP, can try to find a new team and negotiate a contract with the club until Sept. 1, the team said. The Patriots did not say whether Branch requested permission. Branch is in the final year of a five-year contract, but he wants a new deal. He refused to report to the Patriots' mandatory minicamp in June and the team workouts since training began July 28. He is subject to a $14,000 fine for each day he holds out. Read more
